"Errand Girl For Swing"
By : George W. Carroll/The Musicians'
Ombudsman, as it appeared in “eJazz News”
(it’s like a newspaper, but on
the World Wide Web)
Right away, one gets the impression that Pippa
knows who to hire musically, as the group's ''in toto'' version
of ''Summertime'' expresses the very essence of swing. There
is a vital drive that is manifest in Wilson's delivery that
resists analysis. My subjective read of her talent is: It is
this combination of undefined 'forces' which she's able to create
with a vocal style of rhythmic fluidity, without which the group's
level of swing might be markedly attenuated. All in all, Pippa
& the group convey the quintessence of swing to the listener
with an ideal tempo, & a soft sense of musical relaxation...
